یکی از عوامل دستیابی به عملکرد بالا در واحد سطح، درصد و سرعت بالای جوانه‌زنی بذرها و استقرار مناسب‌تر گیاهچه‌های حاصل از بذرهای کشت شده می‌باشد. روی به‌عنوان یک عنصر ضروری برای رشد و نمو گیاهان، از نقش کلیدی در بسیاری از فرآیندهای متابولیکی برخوردار بوده و تأثیر مثبتی را بر جوانه‌زنی بذرها دارد. اثر پیش‌تیمار بذر با محلول‌هایی با غلظت 5/0، 1 و 2 درصد سولفات روی بر تسهیم اندوخته بذر، آغاز خودپروری گیاهچه گندم و فعالیت آنزیم آلفا آمیلاز طی پژوهشی به‌صورت فاکتوریل بر پایه‌ی طرح کاملاً تصادفی در 4 تکرار، در دانشگاه مراغه در سال 1392 مورد ارزیابی قرار گرفت. نتایج نشان داد که کلیه شاخص‌های مورد مطالعه به‌طور معنی‌داری تحت تأثیر پیش‌تیمار روی قرار گرفتند. مقایسه میانگین صفات اندازه‌گیری شده نشان داد که افزایش غلظت روی به یک درصد، اثرات مثبتی بر صفات مورد مطالعه داشته و برعکس، افزایش غلظت این عنصر به بیش از یک درصد موجب تغییرات منفی در صفات مزبور گردید. نتایج به دست آمده از این پژوهش نشان داد، میزان وزن خشک دانه در تیمار شاهد و سولفات روی 5/0 درصد به ترتیب در روزهای 21 و 20 به سطح ثابتی رسیدند که پس از بازه‌های یاد شده این مقدار ثابت ماند. همچنین، میزان وزن خشک کل، در تیمار شاهد و سولفات روی به ترتیب در روزهای 15 و 13 به وزن اولیه خود (وزن بذر) دست یافت. به‌علاوه، رشد خودپروری گیاه طی 12-10 روز پس از خیساندن آغاز شد. بذرهای تیمار شده با 5/0 و 1 درصد سولفات روی نسبت به سطوح دیگر آن دارای سطح برگ بیشتری بودند. این امر می‌تواند در نتیجه‌ی ورود زودتر گیاهچه‌های حاصل از این تیمارها به مرحله خودپروری باشد. نتایج حاصل از تجزیه واریانس صفات اتمام اندوخته بذر، جبران اندوخته بذر، وزن خشک ریشه‌چه و وزن خشک ساقه‌چه مؤید این امر بود. در همین راستا پیش‌تیمارهای 5/0 و 1 درصد سولفات روی زودتر از تیمارهای شاهد و 2 درصد روی به خودپروری رسیدند که با توجه به نتایج آزمایش‌ها پیش‌تیمارهای 5/0 و 1 درصد برگزیده شدند.
