 ویروس خربزه ­ی ارومیه یکی از عوامل بیماری موزاییک خربزه (Cucumis melo L.) در استان آذربایجان­ غربی و سایر نقاط ایران از جمله استانهای گیلان، فارس و البرز است. این ویروس اولین بار در سال 1978 از روی کدوییان دارای نشانه موزاییک و لکه حلقوی در ارومیه شناسایی شد. از همان ابتدای تحقیق روی این ویروس مشخص شد که ویروس دارای خصوصیات منحصر به فردی است که آن را از سایر ویروس‌های آلوده کننده کدوییان متمایز می­کند. پیکره­های ویروس تا اندازه­ای باسیلی ­شکل هستند و دو انتهای آن‌ها زاویه ­دار است. ژنوم ویروس به صورت سه قطعه آر. ان.ای تک رشته­ای با قطبیت مثبت می­باشد که هر کدام یک پروتیین کد می­کنند. دامنه میزبانی ویروس در طبیعت بیشتر شامل گیاهان تیره کدوییان و بادمجانیان است. ناقل طبیعی برای ویروس مشخص نشده است. ویروس خربزه­ی ارومیه همراه با ویروس اپیروس گیلاس و ویروس سی کاساوا در جنس اورمیاویروس (Ourmiavirus) قرار داده شده است.
