Ralstonia solanacearum is an important phytopathogen which reduces quantity and quality of potato. Due to its wide distribution and broad host range and in soil of different regions through irrigation water or latent infected tubers. It is generally difficult to control the damage of this bacterium. It has widely distributed in most of potato growing regions of Iran and by causing wilt and brown rot disease of potato, is a serious treat for cultivation of this crop in the country. Providing and sowing the healthy and certificated seed tubers is the most effective method of controlling the disease. For a successful strategy of disease management, a clear understanding of mode of disease distribution and epidemiology of causal agent is necessary. In this paper, recent scientific findings on this disease are described and new methods of bacterium detection and health assay of seed tubers are introduced.

Edible mushrooms that are known as the truffle are classified in apothecial ascomycetes. They are obligate ectomycorrhiza of plants and produce their fruiting bodies on or below the surface of the soil. The genus Tuber belongs to the order Pezizales, class Pezizomycets, and has numbers of species with universal distribution. So far, France, Italy, United Kingdom and New Zealand have tried for the commercial production of truffle. Among the species of edible truffle of the universe, two valuable species, the white truffle, T. magnatum, and the black truffle, T. melanosporum, are the most valuable species. Because of their economic and medicinal importance, this is necessary to perform scientific research for their accurate identification.

Abstract

Truffles are edible fungi belonging to the phylum Ascomycota. These valuable fungi can be divided into two categories: desert and forest truffles. They are obligatory mycorrhiza forming with some trees, shrubs, annual and perennial plants. These fungi belong to 38 genera of six families of the order Pezizales, class Pezizomycetes. The forest truffles are classified in the Tuberaceae family and the desert truffles in the other families. The existence of Tuber aestivum from the family Tuberaceae, Terfezia claveryi, Terfezia boudieri, Tirmania pinoyi, and Tirmania nivea from the family Pezizaceae, Picoa juniperi, Picoa lefebvrei, Geopora cooperi and Geopora cooperi, from the family Pyronemataceae, has been morphologically and molecularly proven by researches in Iran. The morphological characteristics, symbiotic plants, and distribution areas of these fungi are described here.
