بیماری‌های پس از برداشت سیب، معمولاً توسط طیف وسیعی از قارچ‌ها به وجود می‌آیند. پوسیدگی پس از برداشت این میوه، مهم­ترین دلیل کاهش طول عمر و ارزش اقتصادی آن به شمار می‌آیند. قارچ‌های  Botrytis cinerea و Penicillium expansum به ترتیب عامل کپک خاکستری و کپک آبی، شایع‌ترین  عامل­های پوسیدگی بعد از برداشت میوه سیب شناخته شده­اند. استفاده از سم­های شیمیایی برای مبارزه با این قارچها می­تواند اثرهای سوء بر سلامت مصرف­کنندگان و محیط‌زیست داشته و سبب بروز مقاومت در قارچها و از بین رفتن جانداران مفید ‌شود. بنابراین مبارزه زیستی با این قارچها به عنوان روشی مناسب برای مصرف کنندگان و سازگار با محیط زیست مورد توجه قرار گرفته است. کارآیی  قارچ­های  Candida saitoana و Trichoderma harzianum و باکتری Rahnella aquatilis در مبارزه زیستی با این بیماری­ها به اثبات رسیده است.
