Abstract

Powdery mildew is one of the most important diseases of alfalfa crops in Iran. Leveillula taurica which is the main causal pathogen on alfalfa, has a wide host range and distributed in warm and arid areas of the world. Planting the resistant and moderately resistant cultivars is the most appropriate method to control the powdery mildew of alfalfa. Based on field trials in Iran, the cultivars Codi and Gharehyonjeh are moderately resistant Bami is moderately susceptible Hamedani 121 and Hamedani 122 are susceptible and Mohajeran, Simertchenskaya, Diablorde and Ranger are highly susceptible to this disease. Accordingly, Codi and Gharehyonjeh which are the moderately resistant cultivars can be used for management of this disease.

Introduction: Rhizoctonia solani Kühn is a soil borne fungus that causes stem canker and black scurf and severely damages crop in various potato growing areas in Iran. The aim of this study was to investigate the pathogenicity of various fungal isolates from different potato growing areas in Iran on the Burren cultivar. Material and Methods: In this study, The pathogenicity of 70 isolates of Rhizoctonia solani from major potato growing areas in Iran including the provinces of Ardabil, Isfahan, Fars, Kurdistan, Kerman, Lorestan and Hamedan was investigated on the potato cultivar ‘Burren’ in completely randomized design experiment under greenhouse conditions. Results: The analysis of variance showed that the pathogenicity of the isolates was very different at probability level of 1% is significant, and therefore they were divided into different groups. Conclusions: The isolates of Ardabil-1, Ardabil-5, Isfahan-14, Fars-26, Fars-29, Kurdistan-34, Kurdistan-39, Kurdistan-40, Kerman-47 and Hamedan-66 had the highest pathogenicity, while the  isolates Fars-21, Isfahan-20, Hamedan-65 and Isfahan-18 showed the lowest pathogenicity, respectively.

Introduction: Verticillium wilt, caused by Verticillium dahliae, is one of the most important soil-borne diseases of stone-fruit trees. Materials and Methods: Samples showing evidence of Verticillium wilt were collected from stone fruit orchards in the suburbs of Shahroud and Damavand and four isolates of V. dahliae were obtained. The fungal inoculum was prepared on sterile wheat grains and the response of 13 peach and nectarine cultivars propagated by grafting on GF305 (almond-peach hybrid) rootstock was inoculated with it in the canopy area in the garden in early spring. Sixteen weeks after inoculation, disease severity was recorded on a three-point scale. Results: All peach and nectarine cultivars were classified as very susceptible, susceptible, or semi-susceptible and none of them showed resistance. The Nectarine Independence cultivar was highly susceptible to disease, while the peach cultivar had the lowest disease severity index and was therefore classified as semi-susceptible. Conclusion: Among these cultivars, the Romestar peach cultivar is less susceptible to the disease.
