نارون از مهم­ترین درختان زینتی به­شمار می‌رود و در طراحی فضاهای سبز شهرها کاربرد فراوان دارد. بیماری مرگ هلندی نارون به­عنوان یکی از مهم­ترین بیماری‌های نارون در دنیا شناخته شده است این بیماری در حال حاضر پراکنش جهانی داشته و حداقل سه گونه Ophiostoma از جمله O. ulmi، O. novo-ulmi و  O. himal-ulmi در ایجاد بیماری دخیل هستند که از نظر پراکنش جغرافیایی و قدرت تهاجم با هم متفاوت هستند. در ایران دو گونه O. ulmi و O. nov-oulmi به­عنوان عامل بیماری گزارش شده­اند، که جدایه‌های گونه  O. novo-ulmi دارای قدرت بیماری­زایی بیشتری نسبت به جدایه‌های O. ulmi می­باشند. مدیریت بیماری با روش‌های پیشگیری و قرنطینه، اقدامهای بهداشتی، کاشت رقم مقاوم و استفاده از سم‌های شیمیایی عملی است. جنبه‌های مختلف بیماری شامل نشانه‌ها، زیست‌شناسی و بوم­شناسی بیمارگرها و روش‌های مدیریت آن در این مقاله شرح داده شده است.
