به‌منظور ارزیابی اثر کیتوزان بر جوانه‌زنی و برخی ویژگی‌های بیوشیمیایی گیاه دارویی ماریتیغال در شرایط تنش شوری، آزمایشی به‌صورت فاکتوریل در قالب طرح کاملاً تصادفی با سه تکرار در آزمایشگاه علوم و تکنولوژی بذر دانشگاه شاهد تهران در سال 1394 اجرا شد. فاکتورهای آزمایش شامل سطوح تنش شوری (صفر، 4، 8 و 12 دسی‌زیمنس بر متر) و سطوح مختلف کیتوزان (صفر، 25/0، 5/0، 75/0 و 1 درصد) بودند. نتایج نشان داد که تنش شوری موجب کاهش درصد جوانه‌زنی، ضریب جوانه‌زنی، سرعت جوانه‌زنی، شاخص وزنی و طولی بنیه بذر، طول ریشه‌چه، ساقه‌چه و گیاهچه و بیوماس کل و افزایش متوسط زمان جوانه‌زنی گردید. پیش‌تیمار بذر با کیتوزان تا غلظت 5/0 درصد سبب افزایش صفات ضریب جوانه‌زنی، شاخص وزنی بنیه بذر و طول ساقه‌چه شد. بیشترین میزان کلروفیل کل و پروتئین کل در پیش تیمار بذر با سطوح 5/0 درصد کیتوزان در شوری صفر دسی زیمنس بر متر (شاهد) به دست آمد. با افزایش تنش شوری، میزان فعالیت آنزیم‌های کاتالاز و پراکسیداز افزایش داشت، به‌طوری که بیشترین فعالیت این دو آنزیم در سطح تنش شوری 12 دسی زیمنس بر متر در پیش‌تیمار با 5/0 درصد کیتوزان به دست آمد. نتایج نشان داد که تیمار بذر با کیتوزان 5/0 درصد می‌تواند اثرات مضر تنش شوری را بر برخی صفات در گیاهچه ماریتیغال کاهش داده و رشد گیاهچه را بهبود بخشد.
