به‌منظور بررسی اثر سطوح مختلف تنش شوری بر صفات جوانه‌زنی و رشد اولیه بذر شنبلیله، آزمایشی در قالب طرح کاملاً تصادفی با چهار تکرار در آزمایشگاه زراعت دانشکده کشاورزی دانشگاه گیلان انجام شد. تیمارهای مورد استفاده شامل: سطوح مختلف تنش شوری (0، 2/0-، 4/0-، 6/0-، 8/0-، 1-، 2/1-، 4/1-، 6/1- و 8/1- مگاپاسکال) ناشی از کلرید سدیم بودند. نتایج به‌دست آمده نشان داد که با افزایش سطوح شوری درصد جوانه‌زنی، سرعت جوانه‌زنی، انرژی جوانه‌زنی، شاخص میزان جوانه‌زنی، درصد آب بافت گیاهچه، طول گیاهچه، وزن تر و خشک گیاهچه و شاخص بنیه بذر به‌طور معنی‌داری کاهش یافت. اگر چه سطوح شوری (2/0- و 4/0- مگاپاسکال) از طریق تحریک رشد اولیه، میزان وزن خشک و تر گیاهچه را نسبت به شاهد افزایش دادند. به‌علاوه کاهش میزان جوانه‌زنی، روندی افزایشی را نسبت به تیمار شاهد داشت. بررسی نتایج ضرایب همبستگی بین صفات مورد مطالعه نشان داد که بین درصد جوانه‌زنی با دیگر مؤلفه‌های جوانه‌زنی به‌جز میزان کاهش جوانه‌زنی همبستگی مثبت و معنی‌داری برقرار بود. به‌طورکلی نتایج آزمایش نشان داد که بذر شنبلیله در زمان جوانه‌زنی، میزان شوری تا 2/1- مگاپاسکال (9/38 دسی‌زیمنس بر متر) را می‌تواند تحمل کند.
